Netherlands seize early lead in Nations League Group A2

In the Nations Liga, Holanda stormed onto the pitch in Belgrado on Sunday 27, seeking to improve on a home draw with Germany. The Netherlands delivered a 2‑1 win over Serbia at the Rajko Mitic Stadium, their first Nations League triumph of 2026.

Early pressure paid off when, in the 28th minute, Summerville was brought down inside the area by Aleksa Terzic. The referee pointed to the spot and Mexx Meerdink calmly slotted the penalty two minutes later to give the visitors the lead.

Serbia answered swiftly after the break. Within a minute, Sasa Lukic threaded a pass to Luka Jovic, who volleyed home to level the score and ignite the home crowd.

Netherlands reclaimed control in the second half. At the 24th minute, Guus Til found Mexx Meerdink at the edge of the box, and the striker finished into the corner, sealing his brace and the final score.

Group standings shift

The victory lifts Holanda to four points, placing them provisionally at the top of Grupo A2. Their position remains vulnerable, however, as the outcome of the Germany‑Greece match will determine the final hierarchy. Serbia, still without a point, sit at the bottom of the group.

Future fixtures

In the third round, Serbia travel to Munich to meet Germany on 1 October at the Allianz Arena. On the same day and kick‑off time, Holanda face Greece at the Toumba Stadium in Salônica, aiming to consolidate their lead among the group’s contenders.
