Stadium plan progresses

The first designs were drawn up under the previous American owners, but Italian bureaucracy stalled the project. Since the Friedkin family took over, they have pushed relentlessly to break the deadlock, and the recent approval marks a historic milestone for the club.

AS Roma hopes to break ground in March 2027, with construction slated to finish two years later. The new arena will sit in the Pietralata district in north‑east Rome, replacing the Stadio Olimpico as the Giallorossi’s home.

"The new stadium will certainly be part of our dossier," said Giovanni Malago, the Italian football federation chairman, after the approval. "We are entering a new phase," the club added on its website, calling the decision a historic milestone.
