Napoli invests €200 million in new Maradona stadium, works start in 2027

Napoli has confirmed the total investment of €200 million for the redevelopment of the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, with the start of construction works scheduled for January 2027. The decision comes at a crucial moment for the city’s bid for Euro 2032.

Full financing at €200 million

The municipal council, at the urging of Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, has authorized the use of €50 million from municipal resources. This amount adds to the €150 million allocated by the Campania Region through the Cipess, thus completing the economic coverage planned for the project.

The regional contribution is divided into €5 million earmarked for design and safety upgrades of the facility, while €145 million will be used for modernization works.

Work schedule

The timetable, reported by Corriere del Mezzogiorno, foresees the opening of the construction sites in January 2027 and the completion of works by 31 December 2029. The goal is to have the Maradona fully renovated by 2030, ready for UEFA’s compliance inspection.

The process was already launched in April 2026 with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Campania Region and the Municipality of Naples, which defined the guidelines for the design of the works.

Optimism for Euro 2032

The municipal Councilor for Sports and Equal Opportunities, Emanuela Ferrante, said: “I am confident that the Maradona will be among the stadiums selected by UEFA.” Her statement underscores the confidence in the resources deployed by the municipal and regional administrations.

With the financial coverage now complete, the next step is to await the conclusion of the process required by FIGC and UEFA for the bid. Naples aims to present itself at Euro 2032 with a thoroughly renovated Maradona stadium that meets the required standards.
