Nápoles and Roma light up the night with a bicycle kick at the stadium

At the Diego Armando Maradona, Napoli and Roma drew 3-3 on 24/10/2026 in Matchday 8 of Serie A, with goals from Frank Anguissa, Scott McTominay, Matías Soulé and Leonardo Balerdi, and with the minutes 28', 48', 70', 74', 83' and 90' recorded in the match.

First half: Anguissa's bicycle kick

Napoli dominated much of the first half and opened the scoring at 28' with a spectacular bicycle kick from Frank Anguissa, which left goalkeeper Gollini with no options. Roma tried to respond and Cristante headed a ball that hit the post before halftime. Despite the pressure, the home team maintained the lead.

The Roman comeback

At the start of the second half, McTominay extended Napoli's lead with a header at 48', making it 2-0. Four minutes after the break, Soulé reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the 70th minute. Just four minutes later, the Argentine defender Balerdi, who had come on from the bench, equalised the game at 74'.

McTominay scored again at 83' with a long-range shot that restored 3-2 in favour of Napoli. However, Roma did not give up and Balerdi, after winning an aerial duel against Beukema, headed in at the 90th minute to seal the final 3-3.

Consequences and reactions

The draw left Napoli on 11 points in the table, while Roma moved up to 18, maintaining their fight for the top spots. The veteran coaches, Allegri at Napoli and Gasperini at Roma, saw how their teams displayed resilience and character. After the final whistle, Allegri was sent off the pitch after protesting, as reported by journalist Fernando Gabarró.

The protagonists of the match were the Scottish McTominay, who scored two goals, and the Argentine Balerdi, who netted Roma's two goals. Both players were decisive on a night that was marked by the excitement and quality displayed in the stadium that bears the name of the legendary Diego Armando Maradona.
