Mourinho insists Arsenal‑linked Vinicius remains no‑greater than Real Madrid badge

Jose Mourinho warned that Vinicius Junior, the 26‑year‑old Brazilian who has scored just one goal in ten league and European outings, will start for Real Madrid in their Champions League tie with RB Leipzig on Wednesday, despite persistent Arsenal interest.

Contract extension and Arsenal interest

Vinicius Jnr has signed a new deal that runs to 2032, meaning he will remain at Real Madrid until he is 31 – a total of thirteen years at the club after arriving at 18. Representatives confirmed the extension after the summer, noting the player’s desire to stay at the pinnacle club.

Roc Nations Sports International president Michael Yormack said, “With Vini, he went to Madrid at a very young age, and there’s an element of comfort. He has competition for places, but it is the pinnacle club.” Yormack added that Arsenal were “very aggressive” and rolled out the red carpet, yet never presented a record‑breaking offer.

The Brazilian’s camp confirmed that Arsenal’s pursuit was serious, but the Gunners’ failure to meet the rumored fee left Vinicius to extend his contract and continue his journey at Los Blancos.

Mourinho's message ahead of Leipzig clash

Speaking to the media before the Wednesday night Champions League clash with RB Leipzig, Mourinho stressed that “the badge is untouchable” and that a player’s status, captaincy or transfer fee does not make them untouchable – only performance does.

He reiterated that Vinicius will play tomorrow, while new signing Yan Diomande remains uncertain about his own involvement, underscoring the manager’s belief that no player is above the club.

Mourinho reflected on his first few months in charge, describing the upcoming match as crucial in Real’s hunt for European glory and insisting that the club always takes precedence over any individual.

Vinicius has struggled for form, managing only one goal across ten league and European games, and now faces competition from Diomande for a starting berth, a situation that has heightened tension in the Madrid camp.

The Wednesday night encounter with Leipzig is therefore a litmus test for both the winger’s resurgence and Mourinho’s claim that the Real Madrid badge outweighs any external allure, including the Premier League’s Arsenal.

Arsenal’s aggressive pursuit of a player of Vinicius’ calibre highlights the Premier League’s continued appetite for top talent, yet Real Madrid’s ability to retain him illustrates the club’s enduring pull in the European market.
