Montella under pressure ahead of Nations League clash with Italy

Vincenzo Montella is under heavy pressure in the run‑up to the Nations League clash with Italy. Turkey has recently lost to France, Italy and Belgium, which puts the Italian national team coach under sharp scrutiny.

Montella refuses to get ahead of dismissal

Despite calls for his departure, Montella refuses to get ahead of a possible dismissal. He stated during the press conference that he accepts the dynamics of football, but does not want to think negatively.

The 52‑year‑old coach emphasized that he cannot accept illogical criticism, but does value constructive feedback. He referred to his results since his appointment in 2023, including promotion to Nations League A and the first World Cup qualification in 24 years.

In the current Nations League, however, Turkey has lost all three matches, and Montella does not have his strongest squad. Kenan Yildiz, Orkun Kökcü and Hakan Calhanoglu are missing due to injuries, while Arda Güler is suspended after a red card against Belgium.

Montella remains confident that the team, despite the absentees, can stay competitive and can go in search of victory.
