Monaco’s unbeaten run under Filipe Luís threatens PSG’s Ligue 1 dominance

As Ligue 1 resumes on Friday the 9th after the Data Fifa break, Monaco sit atop the table unbeaten under Brazilian coach Filipe Luís, while Paris Saint‑Germain continue to dominate European football but sit sixth domestically.

Monaco’s flawless start

Monaco have amassed 13 points from four wins and a draw, remaining unbeaten in the Ligue 1 season. Their most striking result is a 2‑1 victory away at PSG, putting them five points clear of the current champions, who sit in sixth with eight points.

crowns the Brazilian ‘invincible’

Spain’s newspaper published a feature calling Filipe Luís “invincible” and suggesting his side could threaten PSG’s hegemony in France. The article notes that this campaign is Monaco’s best since the 1991‑92 season when Arsène Wenger was in charge.

Despite the numbers, Luís shunned title talk in a RMC radio interview, insisting the team must stay grounded and focus on each match.

“We are not thinking about that. It is not realistic. We know the club’s reality. I am ambitious, very ambitious, but we have to think game by game,” he said.

Contrasting ambitions

On the TV programme After Foot, Luís highlighted the gap between Monaco and PSG, reminding that the Parisians have won the last two Champions League editions and operate on a different European level.

He argued Monaco must assess its own level throughout the season before setting loftier goals.

Coaching pedigree and defensive overhaul

Before Monaco, Luís guided Flamengo to seven trophies in roughly 100 matches, a record that attracted praise from PSG manager Luis Enrique, who lauded Luís’ courage to implement an attacking style.

The Spanish report also praised Monaco’s defensive evolution: last season the club finished seventh and conceded 54 goals, but under Luís’ 4‑2‑3‑1 system the team now presses higher and is more organised without the ball.

Goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky confirmed the collective change, saying the defensive unit was problematic last year but is now more structured and competitive.

Next fixture

Monaco return to action on Saturday the 10th, hosting Toulouse at 15:45 Brasília time in the sixth round of the Ligue 1 season at Stade Louis‑II.
