Monaco's cash crunch fuels Premier League striker buzz for Filipe Luís

The Brazilian coach Filipe Luís, who arrived this summer, has already seen several departures and now confronts a potential blow to his attacking plans.

Since his arrival, Filipe Luís has watched the exits of young prospects Aladji Bamba and Kassoum Ouattara, as well as the loss of left‑back Caio Henrique. These moves have already thinned the squad and heightened the club’s financial concerns.

The most prominent departure looms for Maghnes Akliouche, whose 50‑million‑euro transfer to Paris Saint‑Germain has been accepted, pending final details. Akliouche had been the undisputed right‑winger, and his exit would leave a void if the Balogun saga materialises.

The English newspaper speculated that agents representing Folarin Balogun approached Tottenham to test the London side’s interest. This report introduced the phrase Os Spurs, highlighting the Premier League club’s ongoing search for a striker.

Tottenham’s pursuit includes reported interest in Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, though no concrete offers have emerged. Other options cited by the club’s staff are Brazilian forward Richarlison, praised by Roberto de Zerbi, and English striker Dominic Solanke.

French daily L’Équipe added that the Monaco player is set to change representation to Jorge Mendes, who will be tasked with securing a new club. This development underscores the club’s broader strategy of monetising assets.

Further financial pressure may force Monaco to part with midfielders Lamine Camara and Aleksandr Golovin, as the Ligue 1 television‑rights crisis strains the balance sheet. The club’s accounts have been hit by reduced broadcast revenue.

Monaco continues its youth‑focused project, having secured Ansu Fati permanently and added Matthis Abline, Sadibou Sané, Mathys Detourbet (on loan) and Flávio Nazinho, all aged 23 or younger. Abline’s 30‑million‑euro fee makes him the most expensive Ligue 1 signing to date and provides a versatile option on either flank or centrally.

Filipe Luís praised the new signing, saying, “For me, he is a high‑level player, really excellent, very dangerous, fast, capable of attacking spaces and offers the depth we were looking for.” The comment came early this month.
