Belgian FA seeks two-match ban for Thorgan Hazard

🇬🇧 28 May 2026

Belgian FA disciplinary board has recommended a two‑match suspension for Thorgan Hazard after he received a red card in the match against Union. Hazard, 33, is set to leave Anderlecht for French club Lens.

The dismissal occurred during the Union fixture, triggering the board's sanction proposal. Belgian competition rules prescribe a minimum two‑match ban for a straight red card.

The pending transfer means the suspension will apply regardless of Hazard's departure from Anderlecht. The board's decision is independent of his contractual status.

Lens, identified as Hazard's likely new club, would inherit the ban if the transfer is finalized before Hazard serves the suspension. The French side has not issued a public statement on the matter.

Anderlecht will lose Hazard without him completing the suspension at the club. The timing aligns with the closing phase of the Belgian season.

The disciplinary board aims to confirm the sanction within the coming week. Hazard's availability for Lens' upcoming matches remains uncertain.
