Mikel Arteta’s blunt update on Bukayo Saka’s quad blow after Bayern

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta gave a stark update on Bukayo Saka’s injury after the Gunners drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich, when the England winger limped off inside the opening ten minutes clutching his left quad. The manager refused to sugar‑coat the situation.
Saka began the match with energy, showing sharpness on the ball and directness in duels. He immediately gave Alphonso Davies trouble, forcing the Bayern full‑back into defensive actions. The early exchanges suggested Arsenal could exploit the left flank.
Inside the opening ten minutes Saka moved the ball wide. After that he pulled up, clutching his left leg. He was forced off straight away, pointing to his quad as he limped off the pitch. The winger left the tunnel visibly uncomfortable.
Arteta did not try to dress the situation up. “We lost Bukayo, who actually was having a great game,” he said. “They are a bit concerned. A player that has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news but we have to wait and see.” He added, “It doesn’t look good at all but we have to see.”
Eze’s goal offers brief relief
Eberechi Eze replaced Saka and soon after found the net, giving Arsenal the opener in the 2-2 draw. The goal provided a glimmer of hope as Arsenal will need alternatives if Saka misses time. That is the key point.
Saka has started all seven Premier League matches this season and featured in two of Arsenal’s three Champions League fixtures. His regular involvement underlines his importance to the side. Losing him therefore raises concerns about the team’s attacking options.
Arteta warns of intensity
When asked about the workload on elite players, Arteta pointed to the physical demands of top‑level football. “Against Lille he didn’t start the game, then he started the game at the weekend,” he explained, noting the “incredible” intensity and citing the recent PSG versus Barcelona clash. He concluded that such injuries “happen unfortunately” and reiterated that “it doesn’t look good at all but we have to see.”
Arsenal now wait for further medical news on Saka, and the manager admitted that waiting is usually bad news. The injury clouds the Gunners’ progress after a decent result against Bayern Munich.
