Man United seek new manager as Carrick teeters on the brink

On a recent gloomy Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford, Manchester United suffered a crushing 0-3 defeat to Bournemouth, their eighth match without a win. At the same time, the future of assistant coach Michael Carrick at the club hangs by a thread. Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann top the list of possible successors if Carrick is dismissed. Both managers are seen as the leading candidates to replace the English assistant coach.

The club hierarchy had already considered alternatives to Carrick before the defeat and now wants to speed up the selection process. Technical director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada must make a recommendation to co‑owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Captain Bruno Fernandes sat on the bench for the entire match against Bournemouth, after previously voicing criticism of Carrick's tactics. His absence underscores the unrest within the squad.

Eddie Howe left his role as manager of Newcastle United in July. He had at the time said he wanted to take a break from football, but now reports that he is open to a new challenge at Manchester United.

Julian Nagelsmann has been without a club since his departure as Germany's national team coach. He has a good relationship with Christopher Vivell, head of scouting at United, which strengthens his candidacy.

Unai Emery and Antonio Conte were previously mentioned as possible successors, but are currently not considered favorites. According to an English sports channel, Emery would remain at Aston Villa.
