Middlesbrough's gamble on Mikey Moore amid fierce competition

Middlesbrough's gamble on Mikey Moore amid fierce competition

Middlesbrough are poised to secure Tottenham Hotspur winger Mikey Moore on loan this summer, despite stiff interest from other clubs, as the Teesside side look to bolster their attacking options after a fifth‑place finish and a failed play‑off campaign in the season.

Moore returned from a season‑long loan at Rangers where he made 47 appearances, scored seven goals and supplied four assists as the Scottish club finished third in the Premiership.

The Riverside Stadium has already lost Dael Fry and Hayden Hackney, but added Sebastian Berhalter, Myles Peart‑Harris, Kyle Joseph and Will Lankshear – the latter for an initial £10 million fee plus £10 million in add‑ons – and a reported $7.5 million deal for defender Max Arfsten is close to completion.

Middlesbrough’s pursuit of a new winger is driven by the need to replace the possible departure of Morgan Whittaker, linked with West Ham United, and to maintain the good relationship forged with Tottenham after the Lankshear signing.

However, the club faces a double hurdle: competition from a host of interested sides and Moore’s own ambition to move to a top‑five European league, a stance that could keep him from a Championship loan.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has hinted that Spurs are looking for a new winger, casting doubt on Moore’s future at the club, while Boro hope a season‑long loan would aid his development if a top‑flight move does not materialise.
