Antwerp Dismiss Joseph Oosting After 3-0 Leuven Defeat

🇧🇪 18 May 2026

Royal Antwerp FC confirmed the end of Joseph Oosting's spell as head coach on Tuesday. The decision came after a 3-0 defeat to Leuven. It marks the fourth coaching dismissal at the club in just over a year.

The loss in Leuven meant Antwerp failed to qualify for European competition for the third consecutive season. The board described the result as unacceptable and a catalyst for change.

Oosting had been in charge for five and a half months, taking over in the summer. During his tenure the team struggled to find consistency.

Following the heavy defeat, the club's executives voted to terminate Oosting's contract. The termination was announced alongside a statement that a new direction is required.

Club analyst Patrick Goots provided a review of the short-lived tenure. Goots highlighted the pattern of frequent managerial turnover at Antwerp.

He remarked, “He kept believing that the sun would shine again, but it went from bad to worse.” The comment reflects the deteriorating performance under Oosting.

Goots noted that this is the fourth coach to leave the Great Old within twelve months, underscoring a period of instability. The club now faces the task of restoring confidence among players and supporters.

Antwerp will begin a search for a new head coach with the aim of reversing the recent decline. The upcoming appointment will be crucial for the club's ambitions to return to European football.
