Marseille dread crisis ahead of Troyes clash with the Blanc side

Marseille dread crisis ahead of Troyes clash with the Blanc side

Olympique de Marseille have reached a critical juncture, sitting 17th in Ligue 1 after five consecutive defeats across all competitions and now travelling to Troyes in what could be a decisive encounter.

Recent form and a daunting schedule

The French club’s recent calendar has been particularly brutal, featuring fixtures against Rennes, Lille, Monaco and Paris Saint‑Germain. Those matches have left the Olympique side exhausted and vulnerable, making the trip to the Aube region appear as a rare opportunity to halt the slide.

Injury crisis deepens doubts

Compounding the problem, an international break has left Marseille with a spate of injuries. Defender Derek Cornelius is sidelined until 2027, midfielder Pierre‑Emile Højbjerg will miss several games and forward Amine Gouiri remains doubtful for the resumption.

Club president Eric Di Meco expressed his personal unease on the Super Moscato Show on RMC, saying, “I see this match against Troyes and I’m worried… everything we did well against PSG and Rennes before the break feels so far away, you forget it. I only have the negative in my head because we keep losing!”

Di Meco added that Troyes are “the team with the knife between the teeth”, noting they sit just one point above Marseille and are perceived as the weakest of the next four opponents. He warned, “You won’t have all your strengths there and they will have the knife between the teeth. Marseille is practically forced to win. If we come away with a draw, I don’t know how we will analyse this match on Monday.”

The concerns are amplified by a recent friendly loss to Montpellier, further highlighting the lack of momentum. With the Blanc side (Paris Saint‑Germain) looming in the schedule, the pressure on Marseille to secure a victory intensifies.

Should Marseille manage a win at Troyes, they could breathe a sigh of relief and possibly stem the crisis that threatens to engulf the club. A draw or defeat, however, would deepen the gloom ahead of the upcoming challenges.
