Mario Kohnen remains Charleroi coach; Mickaël Seoudi hired
Charleroi have confirmed Mario Kohnen as head coach for the upcoming season and announced former RAAL La Louvière assistant Mickaël Seoudi as his new deputy, with the pair set to meet at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi during the weekend of 30 October to 1 November.
Nicolas Frutos, who left RAAL La Louvière for Charleroi, oversaw the recruitment move that saw David Verwilghen depart for Anderlecht. The RAAL staff also closed the tenure of historic coach Frédéric Taquin, who had guided the club to Belgium’s elite level.
Mickaël Seoudi, who served as Taquin’s assistant for three seasons, was asked to seek a new employer to make way for incoming head coach Edward Still’s preferred staff. Seoudi’s departure created space for him to join Charleroi as the new assistant coach.
Charleroi confirmed interim manager Mario Kohnen in the head‑coach role, after he had taken over from Hans Cornélis. Cornélis himself had succeeded Rik De Mil on the bench earlier in the season.
Seoudi told Sudinfo that he had received several offers, including a concrete one, but living in Maubeuge would have required a long commute with his one‑ and two‑year‑old children. "I did not know Mario Kohnen before we started talking. We are two young coaches but everything was very positive," he said.
Seoudi’s playing career in Belgium included spells with Waasland‑Beveren, Mouscron and Olympic Charleroi. He recently earned the UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching certification in Europe.
The first meetings between Seoudi and Charleroi are scheduled for the weekend of 30 October, 31 October and 1 November at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi. Walfoot encourages supporters to subscribe to its newsletter for further updates.
