Mancini jokes about Tresoldi's choice between Germany and Italy

Roberto Mancini has, with a wink, commented on the national team choice of Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi. The young forward can still choose between Germany and Italy, a topic that recently also occupied Jürgen Klopp. Tresoldi remains for now focused on his role with the German under‑21.

Mancini’s joke and Donnarumma’s laugh

Mancini told a Belgian colleague: “I have indeed met Nicolo Tresoldi. It was a very positive conversation, but he indicated that he cannot make a decision at this moment.” He added a joke: “Let’s hope that next summer he feels 51 percent Italian and 49 percent German.” Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma clearly laughed along.

Tresoldi currently plays for Germany under‑21 and wants to complete that pathway first. According to Mancini, he has made it clear that he wants to take part with Germany in the 2027 under‑21 European Championship next summer. He feels 50 percent German and 50 percent Italian and will make a definitive choice after the tournament.
