Manchester United’s midfield hunt narrows to three Premier League targets
Manchester United’s midfield transfer plans have narrowed sharply, with Andrey Santos, Tyler Adams and Felix Nmecha emerging as the three realistic options as the club push for two arrivals.
The club has reduced its list after deciding to stop chasing every name in circulation, “remain determined to strengthen in the middle of the park after missing out on several priority targets this summer.” The report highlights that the club had targets and limits, with Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali all explored before ending up elsewhere after United “deciding not to meet their respective asking prices.”
Among the revised options, Andrey Santos looks one of the more interesting. TeamTalk states that “United have made fresh enquiries over the Brazilian”, and that he “is believed to be open to a move that would guarantee him more regular first-team football.” The report notes that Santos “started just 13 league matches in the 2025/26 season” and that “there is no certainty that his situation will improve under Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso.”
Tyler Adams is a different case. TeamTalk “Another player discussed internally in recent days is Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams.” United “made enquiries about the United States international during conversations that also covered Bournemouth midfielder, Alex Scott.” Bournemouth are said to be willing to consider offers “in the region of £50 million should formal interest develop.”
Felix Nmecha remains in the frame. TeamTalk says the Borussia Dortmund midfielder “also remains firmly on Manchester United’s shortlist” and that he “continues to be monitored as United weigh up the best-value options.” United still admire Carlos Baleba, but Brighton “still want in excess of £70 million” despite reducing an earlier £100 million valuation.
Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni also “appears unlikely to enter the market”, with hopes of a move fading after a decision was made to keep him central to plans in Spain. So the six-player wishlist has effectively become three. TeamTalk’s conclusion is simple enough: “Santos, Adams and Nmecha all fit that profile, with work continuing behind the scenes to sign two from that trio.”
The report adds that “sources are confident a deal for Ederson remains done”, offering further clarity on United’s midfield rebuild. The club’s recruitment strategy now reflects a need for discipline after past windows of chasing every available name.
Santos stands out as a young midfielder who wants regular football and has shown potential, presenting a genuine market opportunity. Adams, while less headline-grabbing, would bring Premier League experience, leadership and versatility to the squad.
Nmecha’s inclusion underscores United’s focus on best-value options rather than high-risk, high-reward signings. The club’s approach suggests a shift toward pragmatism in the transfer market.
