Mac Allister's June 2028 contract fuels Liverpool uncertainty

Alexis Mac Allister's contract with Liverpool runs until June 2028, meaning the 27‑year‑old Argentina international remains tied to the Reds for another year and a half. He told Sport journalist Nathan Ridley that, despite being told the club did not intend to renew, he still wants to stay at Anfield.

Contract details and club stance

Last season his future was plunged into jeopardy when Liverpool signalled it would not renew his deal, prioritising other renewals. Real Madrid were linked with a move for him in the summer transfer window, but he remained at Liverpool. He has been a mainstay since Andoni Iraola took over as manager.

Future prospects and market interest

In a new interview with Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, the midfielder said he is very happy at Anfield despite the disappointment. "First of all, obviously, I feel that affection from the fans, and that's something incredible for me," he said. He added that he has a year-and-a-half left on his contract and that being told the club’s idea was not to renew was a painful, unpleasant situation.

He said the news has not affected him much because he still has time left at the club, which he wants above all. He noted that the manager, sporting director and new investors have changed, meaning anything can happen in the future. He hopes to be given a new contract and pointed out that teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch received new deals earlier this year after he was told he would not. He explained that the club aims to avoid losing money or seeing players leave on free transfers, a common practice across Europe.

Andoni Iraola publicly praised Mac Allister, saying he understands the game overall and often corrects teammates on the pitch. Iraola added that the midfielder wants to stay, be at his best and continue helping the team.
