Lyon prepares an offer to keep Loïs Openda ahead of RC Lens

An offer could be made by OL to keep Loïs Openda, 26, at the end of his loan from Juventus Turin. The Belgian striker joined Lyon this summer on a loan costing €3.5 million, without a purchase option.

Conditions linked to Lyon's performances

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri believes that Openda's stay will depend on the results of the Rhône club. “Yes, I think he should stay at Lyon, because it is a club that matches his qualities and personality much better,” he said.

According to him, a definitive offer to Juventus could only be presented if OL delivers a good season in Ligue 1 and qualifies for the Champions League. European qualification would provide more financial resources and attractiveness to convince the Belgian.

Financially, Juventus has agreed to cover part of Openda’s high salary during the loan. A permanent transfer would therefore require a substantial financial effort from Lyon.

After a very difficult season in Italy, where Openda scored only two goals in 34 appearances for Juventus, he found a favourable environment at Lyon, a league where he had thrived in the colours of RC Lens.

La Vieille Dame, Juventus’s nickname, could also be willing to sell the striker next summer. Recent reports already mention Juventus’s interest in a permanent sale, with Lyon presented as a possible destination.

In summary, the Loïs Openda gamble is already bearing fruit: the Lyon club is exploring an offer to keep him, while sporting success and Champions League qualification remain the decisive levers.
