Lyon drops to fifth in France as Real Sociedad prepares at Anoeta

On Monday night, Olympique Lyon fell 2-0 to PSG in Paris, losing the Ligue 1 lead and dropping to fifth place in France, while Real Sociedad prepares for the Basque derby in Bilbao and the European clash at the Anoeta stadium.
The Basque duel will be played this weekend in Bilbao, and the following Thursday Real Sociedad will face Olympique Lyon in the Europa League, expanding their competitive schedule.
Lyon sinks in the League
In the match, Luis Enrique's PSG opened the scoring in the 72nd minute and extended the lead in the 84th, leaving Lyon with no answer. With the defeat, the French side sits on 14 points after eight rounds and records two consecutive losses, including the 3-0 thrashing by Hoffenheim in the Europa League.
The PSG goal by Mayulu came against Lyon defender Emma Da Silva, and the Parisian side was slow to settle the game, highlighting the opponent's difficulty in creating chances.

Real Sociedad prepares for the Basque and European duel
Unai Valverde said after training: “They were solid.” Real Sociedad will enjoy 24 more hours of rest than Lyon before the match at Anoeta and comes with a two‑point lead in the table. Paulo Fonseca's side will have a clear week to fine‑tune their league encounter on Saturday against Angers.
On their trips, the Galician team has suffered defeats against PSG, Hoffenheim, Lens and Sparta Prague, has drawn with Fenerbahçe and Paris FC, and has only beaten Anderlecht and Toulouse.
Thus, while Lyon drifts away from the Champions zone and fights to regain prominence in France, Real Sociedad moves forward with a larger margin of rest and points, ready to tackle both the Basque derby and the European challenge.
