Luis Enrique brushes off criticism after PSG outplay Manchester City on Wednesday

PSG secured a 4-2 win over Manchester City on Wednesday, a result Luis Enrique used to silence critics who question the French league’s quality. The Spaniard highlighted the victory as proof that complaints will persist regardless of success.

Pre‑match context and City’s form

Before travelling to Paris, Manchester City had visited Anfield, where the Cityzens defeated Liverpool 3-0 after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off just after the hour mark. The red card proved decisive in that match.

City entered the Champions League tie three goals down at half‑time, having struggled to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League fixture.

Enzo Maresca, Manchester City’s manager, had suggested that Ligue 1’s relative weakness gave PSG an edge on the night.

PSG’s line‑up featured several fringe players – Lucas Beraldo, Dro Fernandez, Lucas Hernandez and Lucas Digne – who had featured in a recent 3-1 win over Le Mans FC, while only Maghnes Akliouche started against City.

After the defeat, Maresca said, “PSG can manage their players before the Champions League. For us, it is a bit different, especially when you have to go to Anfield.”

Enrique replied on Friday, stating, “It is the typical noise around PSG. Before even coming here, I heard that PSG wouldn’t win the Champions League because of the level of Ligue 1, and now that the club has won, that is the reason. People will always complain.”
