Louzán seeks Nations League final at the Bernabéu

In London, after Spain's 2‑3 loss to England at Wembley, journalist and RFEF president Rafael Louzán announced that the federation will submit the documentation for the Nations League final stage to be contested from 9 to 13 June 2027, with a semifinal at the José Zorrilla and the final at the Bernabéu.

“We will submit the documentation to host the four‑team Nations League final,” Louzán said, adding that “The stadiums will be the José Zorrilla and the Bernabéu.” With this proposal, the RFEF aims to consolidate a high‑level European presence for the competition.

Venue selection

The José Zorrilla, Real Valladolid's stadium, has an approximate capacity of 27 600 spectators and is located 190 kilometers from the capital, which, according to Louzán, makes access from Madrid easier. The RFEF already works with Real Madrid and the Valladolid club to promote the bid.

World Cup 2030 context

The announcement comes amid the ongoing contest for the host of the 2030 World Cup final, which the Moroccan federation, led by Fouzi Lekjaa, claims will be played at the Grand Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, in the province of Benslimán. Spain, which keeps the Bernabéu and the Spotify Camp Nou in its dossier, fears losing the centennial final.

The Nations League quarter‑finals are scheduled from 25 to 30 March, with double‑leg matches among the eight best of League A. Potential opponents include France, Germany and England, which will increase the competitiveness of the path to the final stage.

So far, UEFA has not confirmed the venue for the final stage, which will be contested by the four quarter‑final winners. Therefore, Spain will need to get past its knockout round to be able to play the final at home.

Fouzi Lekjaa said this month that the province of Benslimán will be the host of the 2030 World Cup, while FIFA responded that the decision will be taken in due course. The Moroccan proposal increases the pressure on the RFEF to secure a great final.
