Liverpool target Camara and Scott for 2027 overhaul

Inside Anfield’s scouting office, Liverpool’s recruitment team spread out video clips and data sheets as they plot a major midfield overhaul for 2027. The Reds have opted not to replace Curtis Jones this summer, but strengthening Andoni Iraola’s midfield has become an increasingly urgent priority. Their shortlist now features Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott.
Shortlist of midfield targets
Camara, a 22‑year‑old midfielder for Monaco, is praised for his mobility, progressive passing and defensive energy. He offers the ball‑carrying ability and athleticism that Liverpool value in a central midfielder. Scott, a Bournemouth star, combines pressing intensity with the versatility to operate across several midfield roles.
Scott already knows Andoni Iraola from their time together at Bournemouth, giving him an immediate tactical understanding of the Reds’ system. His ability to press aggressively and adapt to multiple positions makes him an attractive short‑term solution. Camara, meanwhile, could provide a longer‑term project with significant resale potential.
Financial considerations
Bournemouth’s asking price for Scott could exceed £100 million after rejecting earlier bids, according to reports. Camara may be available for roughly half that figure, offering Liverpool a potentially better value proposition. Both players would bring youth and energy, but the financial demands of the two deals could be very different.
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool have Camara and Scott high on their list for the central midfield role. He added that the club’s focus remains on strengthening the midfield rather than chasing other positions.
Sky Germany also Liverpool have recently held contact with Felix Nmecha’s representatives, but the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is not currently considered a priority. The focus therefore stays on Camara and Scott as the leading candidates.
Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that Liverpool are monitoring both players and intend to make midfield a major focus in 2027. He said the move could materialise in January or during the summer transfer window.
The Reds are not merely seeking depth; they want a midfielder capable of becoming an eventual starter and reshaping the centre of the team for the coming years. Such a signing would align Liverpool with clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona in targeting high‑valued talent.
