Liverpool’s Alexander Isak forced to end Sweden duty early with injury

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak will return from international duty early after sustaining a minor injury, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The Reds said the 27‑year‑old will miss Sweden’s remaining three Nations League fixtures in the current international break. He is expected to begin rehabilitation at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre upon his return.

Isak has been in fine form for Liverpool this term, accounting for more than half of the club’s Premier League goals so far. The Swede’s tally already exceeds his output from his debut season at Anfield. His four goals place him second‑highest scorer in the league, trailing only last season’s Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland. The lone strike against Bournemouth secured Liverpool’s victory in their most recent match.

Injury concerns across the break

Isak joins a growing list of Premier League forwards sidelined by national team duties this week. Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey both left the field within minutes of each other during Germany’s draw with the Netherlands. Manchester City’s Rayan Ait‑Nouri was also released from Algeria’s training camp after an on‑pitch dispute.

This international break is longer than usual, with top‑level leagues not resuming until the second weekend in October. Manchester City entered the pause top of the table as the only side to win all of their first five games. The extended pause gives clubs time to assess injured players ahead of the restart.
