Liverpool close to renewing Trey Nyoni, deal almost signed

Liverpool is in advanced talks to extend Trey Nyoni's contract, with an agreement already reached but still awaiting signature.

The nineteen‑year‑old midfielder has impressed under the guidance of Andoni Iraola, prompting the club to reward his progress with a contract upgrade. The club is considering an upgrade similar to that planned for the young prospect Rio Ngumoha.

Rejection of a £30 million offer

The club's high regard was already evident last summer, when the Reds turned down a £30 million offer from Nottingham Forest. Since then, Nyoni has made 11 appearances in all competitions.

He also recorded his first start in the Premier League against Arsenal. Andoni Iraola said that “Trey simply needs to keep on the same path he’s been on since the start of pre‑season” and that “we trust him blindly and he is doing very well.”

Nyoni is expected to start in the upcoming Champions League match against Fenerbahçe, in the absence through injury of Ryan Gravenberch.

Mac Allister remains without a renewal

Alexis Mac Allister said in September that he was “very sad” about not receiving a renewal offer from Liverpool. The Argentinian midfielder has seen teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch sign long‑term contracts. His current contract runs until June 2028. Liverpool has not yet opened talks for a renewal, fearing to grant a long‑term deal to the 27‑year‑old after last season’s dip in form.

Ahead of the clash with Fenerbahçe, Mac Allister replied that he still has time at Liverpool and that he is happy to stay. He added that the change of manager and sporting director and the arrival of new investors make his situation uncertain. Liverpool must decide whether to extend Mac Allister’s terms or target a new midfielder.

The club has shown interest in Alex Scott, a former Iraola player at Bournemouth, but Chelsea appears to be leading the race for him. Additionally, Liverpool has completed the initial talks for a possible deal with Lamine Camara of Monaco.

Real Madrid is considering whether to allow Trent Alexander‑Arnold’s return to Anfield in January.
