Lille blocks Matias Fernandez-Pardo’s exit amid Premier interest
Lille president Olivier Létang has rejected striker Matias Fernandez-Pardo’s transfer request, even as Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea circle the 21‑year‑old Belgium international. The move comes after the young winger handed in his request, according to L’Equipe, and are keen to secure his signature.
Lille’s forward line faces a looming gap. Morocco winger Hamza Igamane is out with a torn ACL, and veteran striker Olivier Giroud will turn 40 in September. Coach Davide Ancelotti therefore views Fernandez-Pardo as his primary option up front.
The 21‑year‑old arrived at Les Dogues from Gant two years ago for €10 million. Since then he has contributed 12 goals and 11 assists across 71 appearances. His versatility has made him a key asset for the French club.
Premier League heavyweights Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea have all expressed interest, and Atlético de Madrid is also monitoring his progress. Their pursuit underscores the winger’s rising profile beyond Ligue 1.
“The player is under contract until 2029, and his departure is not a topic,” president Olivier Létang said. “We are counting on him, he knows that, and we have been very clear with him.” Létang’s stance leaves the transfer request unanswered.
Fernandez-Pardo, a Belgium international winger, was part of Rudi Garcia’s 2026 World Cup squad, according to L’Equipe. His national team experience adds further appeal for clubs across Europe.
Lille also hope his performances in the UEFA Champions League group stage – earned after finishing third in Ligue 1 – will boost his market value. With the president firm on retaining him, the player’s desire to move on remains a hurdle for any potential suitor.
