Nach criticism, Infantino’s director Lamour departs FIFA
Nach criticism of Gianni Infantino’s investor proposals, FIFA confirmed on 17 August 2026 that Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour’s employment ended, ending a two‑year stint that began in November 2024. The federation thanked Lamour for his service while offering no further explanation.
Investor plan backlash versus FIFA’s retreat
The disputed investor plans aimed to make shares of the World Cup available to private capital, a multi‑billion‑dollar scheme that drew sharp opposition from continental bodies such as UEFA. Following that criticism, FIFA officially abandoned the proposals.
Lamour publicly accused Infantino of betraying staff, alleging they deserved “better than contempt and intimidation”. He added, “If that means I lose my job, then so be it,” signalling his willingness to accept dismissal.

A FIFA spokesperson confirmed the termination but did not disclose reasons, merely noting Lamour’s two‑year contribution. The statement emphasized the federation’s gratitude without addressing the underlying dispute.
Before joining FIFA, Lamour served as a senior official at UEFA since 2007 and was appointed FIFA’s operating director in November 2024. His career spans nearly two decades within European football administration.
