Leonardo earns first start for Ajax against Burnley
Today, Ajax will line up Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo in the starting eleven for their friendly against Burnley, marking his unofficial debut for the Amsterdam club after being an unused substitute in the recent Conference League tie with FK Vojvodina.
Leonardo was on the bench on Thursday during the away leg against FK Vojvodina in the second qualifying round of the Conference League, but manager Míchel did not give him any minutes. The match was played in Serbia.
Three days later the 23‑year‑old striker will make his first appearance on the pitch. He will be supported on the flanks by Maher Carrizo and Oliver Edvardsen.
Only Aaron Bouwman retains his place from the Serbian fixture, continuing as the 18‑year‑old defender in the starting eleven. He lines up alongside Youri Baas, who has recovered from a slight knee injury.
Kian Fitz‑Jim returns to the squad for the friendly. Owen Wijndal and Youri Regeer are omitted from the matchday roster.
The Ajax‑Burnley friendly kicks off at 14:00 and serves as preparation for the return leg against Vojvodina, scheduled for Thursday.
