Leicester eye budget backup as Martin targets Ravizzoli

Leicester City are reportedly set to sign Blackpool backup goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli for a modest fee, with manager Russell Martin keen to reunite with the Argentine after their brief spell together at MK Dons. The 29‑year‑old will join the Foxes as a second‑choice option, adding depth to the squad.

The recruitment drive is driven by the need to reinforce the squad without inflating the wage bill. After off‑loading Harry Winks and other high earners, Martin has focused on players capable of competing at the top of League One. Adding Ravizzoli provides a reliable backup while keeping costs low.

Ravizzoli featured sparingly for the Tangerines last season, making only eight appearances for Blackpool. Those eight games yielded three clean sheets and nine goals conceded, underscoring his experience at the League One level.

He earned his first league start at MK Dons when Andy Fisher left for Swansea, impressing manager Liam Manning with a clean sheet. Earlier in his career, stints at Wycombe Wanderers saw him amass 52 appearances, 20 clean sheets and 46 goals conceded before being replaced by Will Norris.

Leicester have generated significant funds this summer by selling Abdul Fatawu, Bilal El Khannouss and Jeremy Monga for hefty fees, a crucial step given the club’s financial constraints after back‑to‑back relegations. The Foxes have already added Alex McCarthy as a first‑choice goalkeeper, but Martin remains cautious about overspending.

If the deal materialises, Leicester will gain a goalkeeper familiar with Martin’s expectations and accustomed to League One intensity, bolstering their promotion push. For Ravizzoli, a move to the King Power Stadium offers a clearer path to regular minutes after losing his place to Bailey Peacock‑Farrell at Bloomfield Road.
