Leeds United close €40m swoop on Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Leeds United have agreed a €40 million transfer for Bosnian centre‑back Tarik Muharemovic, with the deal now closing pending a medical. The move, reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, sees Juventus receive €20 million – half of the fee – as part of a future resale clause. The move involving the Whites is nearing completion, attracted by his reputation as one of Serie A’s top centre‑backs. His ball‑playing ability, recovery skills and tall frame suit the demands of English football, and the club believes it could secure a better deal elsewhere in the market.

Muharemovic is currently contracted to Serie A side Sassuolo, a club that earlier appeared destined to retain him. The Italian side’s decision to let the defender leave opened the pathway for a move to England.

Before Leeds’ agreement, Sunderland and Bournemouth were linked with the Bosnian, and several Premier League teams were reported to be monitoring his situation.

Juventus will benefit from the sale, receiving €20 million – 50 % of the total fee – and will retain a percentage of any future resale value, ensuring a continued financial stake in the player’s career.

Inter Milan had considered Muharemovic as a replacement for Alessandro Bastoni, but the Italian club ultimately stayed, thereby clearing the route for the English transfer.

The 23‑year‑old demonstrated his quality last season, establishing himself as one of Serie A’s best defenders. His height and timing allow him to win aerial duels and recover the ball effectively.

The parties are finalising the remaining details and will arrange the defender’s medical before completing all necessary steps for his transfer to Elland Road. The information was supplied by Kaustubh Pandey of GIFN.
