Bayern sporting director says Vincent Kompany's condition stable after hospitalization
Bayern Munich's sporting director Max Eberl provided a health update on Belgian defender Vincent Kompany on Saturday, confirming that the former Manchester City captain is in a stable condition following his unexpected hospitalization on Friday.
Kompany collapsed during a routine training session with the Bavarians and was rushed to a Munich hospital, where doctors diagnosed a serious infection that had been developing over the past week.
Eberl said he spoke directly with Kompany and his wife the night after the incident, adding that the player will remain in the hospital for several more days for comprehensive examinations. "The good news is that his condition is stable. I spoke with Vincent and his wife yesterday evening. He still needs to stay in the hospital for a few days for an in‑depth examination," he told reporters.
Kompany's hospital stay forces Bayern to rethink weeks ahead
He explained that medical staff have been working through a battery of tests to pinpoint the exact nature of the infection. "The doctors have been trying since last night to determine what the problem is. The examinations have already yielded some results, but additional tests are required to truly identify the issue and begin treatment," Eberl said.
Emphasising his non‑medical background, Eberl cautioned against speculation, noting that Kompany is in "the best possible hands" and that the club will follow the doctors' guidance. "I am not a doctor and will therefore make no assumptions; he is in the best possible hands," he added.
Bayern under fire after Kompany's hospital admission, club policy disputed
Bayern confirmed that the health situation will not affect the team's preparation for the upcoming Bundesliga clash with SC Freiburg, scheduled for 17:30 CET on 25 October. The club will continue to monitor Kompany's progress and provide further updates as they become available.
Fans were urged to send their well‑wishes to the former captain, with the club thanking supporters for their patience and understanding during this uncertain period.
