Lazio's Gattuso clashes with Dutch midfielder in Rome
At the Formello training ground in Rome, Lazio’s new head coach Gennaro Gattuso, who arrived in late June after Italy’s World Cup failure, found himself in a heated exchange on Thursday morning with Dutch midfielder Kenneth Taylor, a move that followed Italy’s failure to qualify for the Coupe du monde. He arrived in Rome to oversee a pre‑season programme with the club.
According to the dello Sport, the incident unfolded during a training drill when the Néerlandais midfielder Kenneth Taylor shouted at his coach after a hard tackle from a teammate. Gattuso, a 2006 World Cup champion, judged the challenge to be within the rules of the game.
Gattuso responded by sending Taylor off the training session. The two later met to exchange apologies and restore their working relationship.
Taylor, who is 24, was allowed back onto the Formello training ground for the afternoon session. He rejoined his teammates as the day progressed.
The pair even joked about the episode with the squad, who imagined a small hazing as a punishment. Les players reminded each other never to anger the Rino.
