Laure Boulleau denounces football violence in her documentary

In a living room lit by the blue of Canal+, viewers discover on Sunday 18 October 2026 the new documentary by Laure Boulleau, broadcast in prime‑time. The former defender of Paris Saint‑Germain, 65‑time French international, stands before the camera, ready to lift the veil on a burning issue. A new step marks her commitment to the round ball.

Former professional player of Paris Saint‑Germain (PSG), Laure Boulleau amassed sixty‑five caps for the French national team. Since the end of her career, she has become a star consultant on Canal+. This role has allowed her to stay at the heart of the French football debate.

A prime‑time documentary

This Sunday, the pay‑TV channel broadcast in prime‑time the film titled “Violence in football: what if we calmed down?”. The title, both provocative and interrogative, announces an in‑depth investigation into the excesses that plague the sport.

An ambitious project for football

In this ambitious project, the native of Clermont‑Ferrand meets the perpetrators of these excesses as well as those who work daily on concrete solutions. She travels across amateur and professional pitches to grasp the scale of the scourge. The documentary aims to shed light on the causes and propose avenues for improvement.

Interviewed in the columns of Télécâble Sat Hebdo, Laure Boulleau explains what drove her to speak out. « It was a buildup. But the main element was hearing parents around me say: “I’m not putting my child into football”. Then I thought that we were really not heading in the right direction. If we already think football is violent to the point of not putting our children into it, that means the problem is entrenched », she declared.

Testimony of a former player

To illustrate how easily violence can arise, she recalls a striking episode from her career. « An opponent had been targeting me throughout the match and I ended up giving her a headbutt. Obviously that’s not something to do. But when it happens, you have to immediately acknowledge that what we did is unacceptable. You can lose your temper, but you must get the message across that it is not acceptable », she recalled.

In an interview given to the media OnTime, she described this act as her “only weapon” in a career otherwise marked by fair play. « It’s my only weapon. Moreover, I like people to respect refereeing and when people display inappropriate behavior, I certainly will not find excuses for those who do it. But one day, it’s true and that’s why, when you’re a player, I often say you can have a blow‑up », she affirmed.

A violent past recalled

The gesture recalls Zinedine Zidane’s legendary headbutt on Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final, but the outcome differs. Unlike the number ten of the French, Laure Boulleau escaped sanctions: « The referee didn’t see me, so I was a bit clever this time », she explained. This anecdote serves as a warning about possible excesses, even among the most experienced players.
