La RFEF locks Luis de la Fuente in until 2032 after World Cup triumph
At the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, La RFEF gathered to celebrate the Spanish national team’s World Cup triumph on 19 July, when the Selección Española beat Argentina. The victory capped Luis de la Fuente’s stewardship of the Furia Roja and led to his contract being formally extended to 2032.
Six‑year extension confirmed
The Junta Directiva of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol approved the six‑year extension in the last hours of the day. President Rafael Louzan chaired the meeting that endorsed the continuation of the current national team coach. The decision adds six more years to Luis de la Fuente’s tenure.
Following the official announcement on social media, Luis de la Fuente, Rafael Louzan and Technical Development Director Aitor Karanka signed the renewal at Campo A of the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas. The ceremony marked the formal ratification of the contract until 2032. The trio highlighted the importance of continuity for the Furia Roja.
Looking ahead to England fixture
The renewed coach will commence the next chapter this Saturday against Inglaterra in the UEFA Nations League. Spain, the 2024 European champions after defeating England in Berlin, will seek to defend their title. The Nations League encounter follows their 2023 triumph in the competition.
Spain’s recent record shows an 82.7 percent points effectiveness, derived from 38 wins, ten draws and two losses. The team sits atop the FIFA world rankings. The RFEF praised Luis de la Fuente’s leadership for fostering humility, unity and the value of each person.
The 2024 European Championship victory in Berlin, where Spain overcame England, cemented the side’s elite status and underscored the coach’s impact.
“He will continue the path that has taken us to glory and made us so happy. This is about people and Luis is exceptional: he has everything and is a reference for Spanish society,” said Rafael Louzan.
“We must keep improving, compete to keep winning with the conviction that the best is always yet to come,” said Luis de la Fuente.
LUIS de la Fuente highlighted the ambition driving the new cycle, and FUENTE’s words echoed the federation’s message of continuity.
