Kompany reassures Bayern while Lucho's injury worries
Vincent Kompany tried to calm Bayern's nerves after the discomfort that Colombian Luis Díaz felt in the draw against Arsenal, while warning that a recurring injury could be concerning. The coach emphasized that the substitution was precautionary and does not appear serious.
A vibrant duel in the Champions
Bayern Munich and Arsenal staged one of the best matches of matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League group stage. Alphonso Davies and Harry Kane scored for the home side, while Eberechi Eze and Declan Rive scored for the visitors, closing the encounter 2‑2.
Luis Díaz came on in the 68th minute, but had to be substituted before the end due to a physical problem. His exit came shortly before the 90th minute, when attempting a diagonal he felt a muscle discomfort that forced him to slow down.
The Colombian managed to walk again after the play, but seconds later fell to the ground and was replaced by Bara Sapoko Ndiaye. In the narration of the incident he is also referred to as Lucho.
Concern over the recurrence
Vincent Kompany, interviewed minutes after the match, said the substitution was precautionary and that “I don’t think it’s anything serious”. He added that the recurrence of the discomfort in a short period of time worries him and he hopes the player will be out for less than a week, after reviewing the medical tests.
Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, confirmed that Luis Díaz had already felt muscle discomfort after the match against RB Leipzig, where he was a star with three goals, and that the symptoms resurfaced against Arsenal.
Due to this discomfort, Lucho will not be part of Bayern’s squad for the Bundesliga match against Freiburg, scheduled for Sunday 25 of October at 11:30 a.m., Colombian time.
