Kompany clarifies Musiala’s fainting spells and treatment tweak at Bayern

At a press conference in Munich (Múnich), Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany explained why Jamal Musiala fainted during the recent friendlies against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim, linking the incidents to a recent change in his medical treatment and assuring fans of the player’s health.

The German midfielder suffered two collapses in the preparation matches, prompting concern among observers. Kompany reassured that both episodes were side effects of the treatment adjustment rather than a new health alarm.

Club’s prior knowledge

Musiala publicly disclosed his neurological dysfunction this week, while the club confirmed it had been aware of the condition since the previous season. Sporting director Max Eberl said, “Lo sabemos desde toda la temporada pasada y hemos trabajado con ello. Para nosotros se ha convertido en algo cotidiano.”

Eberl added that the situation has become routine for the institution, emphasizing the long‑term awareness of the player’s health issue.

Impact on upcoming Super Cup

Kompany noted that Musiala altered something in his treatment, causing the side effects, and quoted, “Es completamente normal que en un tratamiento se pruebe algo diferente.” He stressed that such adjustments are part of the process.

Eberl explained that the medical team now aims to readjust the medication to return to the period when Musiala experienced a prolonged stretch without episodes.

During the Heidenheim friendly, Musiala required on‑field medical assistance before being withdrawn, a moment that heightened public concern. The coaching staff, however, remained calm because they already knew how to respond.

Kompany confirmed Musiala will not be included in Bayern’s squad for the German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday at 15:30 (Argentina time). The midfielder is training individually while the club monitors his adaptation to the new treatment.

The coach highlighted that Musiala managed five minutes against Heidenheim and ten minutes against Leipzig, and recalled his 2025 injury involving a fibula fracture and ankle dislocation. Kompany expressed confidence that the player has regained his full capabilities and made a significant step forward this summer.
