Kluivert shines, Carrizo saves Copenhagen in Europe
On an evening when Dutch clubs showed great success in the Europa and Conference League, two home players each delivered a very different story: Justin Kluivert Carrizo shone, while Teun Koopmeiners' evening ended in minor.
At the Vitality Stadium, Justin Kluivert earned his first start for Bournemouth since his injury. He immediately took a penalty against AC Milan, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way after a handball by the Milanese defender.
Bournemouth's evening full of highlights
After the break, Bournemouth earned another penalty, this time after a push on Mike Maignan by Tyler Adams, who also sent the French goalkeeper off. Marcus Tavernier took the chance against backup keeper Lorenzo Torriani, and later Amine Adli finished the evening with a brilliant free kick.
For Juventus, Teun Koopmeiners was, for the first time this season, continuously in the starting lineup against Stade Rennes. After an opening goal from Zeki Çelik, the French side took the lead via Mousa Al‑Tamari and Boulaye Dia, after which Nick Woltemade scored a penalty in the second half. A later goal from Jhon Lucumí was disallowed for offside.
Sunderland fights for a point in Poland
Robin Roefs had expected more from Sunderland's visit to Poland, but Lech Poznan held on despite an early goal from The Black Cats. Roefs saved a hard poetry after a corner and later made a double save to secure a point.
Jeffrey de Lange started between the posts for Olympique Marseille, but could not prevent a mistake in the French build-up. Sturm Graz took the lead and Marseille lost for the third time this season in the Europa League.
In Cyprus, Benfica maintained its flawless record; an own goal by Omonia Nicosia defender Loic Négo gave the Portuguese side the lead, after which the home team equalised. In the second half, Vangelis Pavlidis, Fredrik Aursnes and Gianluca Prestianni ensured a comfortable victory for Benfica.
Conference League: Kairat Almaty versus Panathinaikos
At 16:30, Kairat Almaty and Panathinaikos began their duel, which ended in a marked victory for the visitors. Captain Stefan de Vrij saw Cyriel Dessers score two of the five goals, while Rick van Drongelen remained on the bench.
Brighton & Hove Albion disappointed in the Czech Republic without the injured Mart Wieffer, and could not get past FK Jablonec. Bart Verbruggen made four saves, but the overall atmosphere remained negative.
AS Monaco topped the competition phase; on Thursday Jordan Teze was in the starting lineup and the team proved too strong for SC Freiburg. Ansu Fati scored for the second consecutive European week.
Ajax loanee Maher Carrizo became the hero of FC Copenhagen. The Danish side was trailing midway through the second half, when the Argentine striker scored from distance, after which the goalkeeper of Red Star Belgrade had no answer to the clever rebound.
Mohamed Salah was again decisive for Trabzonspor, which scored twice against Heart of Midlothian keeper Beau Reus. The Egyptian star converted a penalty and provided an assist for the second Turkish goal, while Jordi Altena played the full match.
