Klopp stays super happy despite weak starts in the Nations League
New team boss Jürgen Klopp remains super satisfied despite the sluggish start in the Nations League. After the 0‑0 draw on Sunday in Thessaloniki against Greece, Germany risks missing the quarter‑finals, but the 59‑year‑old coach emphasizes that he is happy with the first step.
With a 2‑0 win against Serbia on Thursday, Germany had secured only one of four games. The 0‑0 against Greece left the team without a goal, while the Netherlands have already collected three points more than the DFB team. The Netherlands lead the group with a three‑point advantage, while Greece also have three points more than the German side.
Offensive Deficits
In four games the German attacking unit scored only three goals, a result that does not meet the DFB's expectations. Ten different forwards in the front three remained goalless, while only the midfielders Felix Nmecha, Tom Bischof and Florian Wirtz have found the net so far.
“All the forwards have done that in their own way very neatly,” said Klopp, describing the match as “an incredible football game, top in every area, really top”.
After two weeks with 44 players, the coach emphasizes that German football does not lack talent. “Everyone wants to work hard. If the players arrive next time, the DFB national team football disc will not be empty,” he added, expressing great satisfaction.
Outlook on the upcoming matches
On 13 November Germany will meet the point‑less bottom‑ranked Serbia in Belgrade, three days later the duel against the Netherlands in Berlin follows. Klopp pointed out that a large squad of 23 or 24 players is no longer necessary and emphasized that there are now many alternatives in the positions.
Outside Germany the Spanish newspaper As criticised the current development and wrote: “The Klopp era is not getting underway”. The coach did not respond further to the accusations.
