Juventus adds 37-year-old Neto as Grabara's replacement

Juventus have signed the 37‑year‑old Brazilian goalkeeper Neto on a free transfer from Botafogo and offered him a contract until 30 June 2027, thereby replacing the injured Kamil Grabara. The former Juventus‑keeper returns after nine years and brings two seasons of experience from Serie A.

Return after nine years

Neto played two seasons for the Old Lady between 2015 and 2017, making 22 appearances. During that period he won two league titles, two Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana. He then appeared as a backup to Gianluigi Buffon.

He made his professional debut at Athletico Paranaense in Brazil. In 2011 he moved to Europe and signed with Fiorentina, where he played a total of 101 matches. After a free move to Juventus in 2015, he transferred two years later for almost 30 million euro to Valencia. Later he represented Barcelona, Bournemouth (where he even captained) and Arsenal.

Experience in Europe

In the summer of 2025 he terminated his contract with Botafogo, leaving him on the market as a free agent. For the Brazilian club he played 22 matches, conceding 24 goals and keeping five clean sheets. His performances were considered inconsistent by a portion of the supporters, which eventually made him the third choice.

The Polish goalkeeper Kamil Grabara suffered a serious injury to his right knee, rendering him unavailable for an extended period. Juventus have appointed Neto as vice‑Vicario, the direct replacement for the injured Grabara.

Replacement of Grabara

Neto's contract runs until 30 June 2027, allowing him to remain at the Turin club for the next two seasons. With his experience in Serie A and other top leagues, the club hopes he can cover the deficit. The return strengthens Juventus' squad in the Italian competition.

In the coming weeks Neto will have to fight for the first‑choice spot alongside Guglielmo Vicario. His presence gives the coach more options in Juventus' goalkeeping department.
