Journalist warns Liverpool’s Zabarnyi chase is far from certain

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball Editorial ·

Liverpool’s search for defensive reinforcements has intensified after centre‑back Joe Gomez suffered an injury in the 4‑2 pre‑season win over Sunderland, prompting the club to look for a player who can cover both centre‑half and right‑back positions ahead of the new Premier League season.

Speaking on the latest episode of Media Matters for Anfield Index, journalist David Lynch told Dave Davis, “They have to sign someone who can play centre half and right back. It’s as simple as that for me.” He added that the club cannot continue planning around Gomez’s availability, noting “They just can’t rely on him.”

From what I’m hearing, Lynch Casts doubt on the move for PSG defender Ilya Zabarnyi. He said a conversation last week revealed that Liverpool would be surprised if the Ukraine international arrives, and that much of the speculation appears to be driven by the player’s own interest rather than an active pursuit.

Lynch’s update makes clear that, while Liverpool must still act before the Transfer window closes, the Zabarnyi option is not currently a priority. The club may revisit the situation later, but supporters should temper expectations as any deal would come as a surprise at this stage.
