Jeremy Doku admits World Cup hopes fell short with Belgium

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku voiced his disappointment on Thursday, saying the World Cup he played in with Belgium’s Red Devils across the United States, Mexico and Canada did not live up to his personal expectations. He had hoped for front‑page headlines and goals, but felt the tournament fell short.

When asked to look back on the recent World Cup with the Red Devils, Doku explained his mindset. “I am used differently than I expected. I thought I could focus all the spotlights on me. Front‑page news, scoring goals, that kind of things,” Doku told .

He admitted the outcome was far from his hopes. “That did not happen and makes it a bit hard to accept, because I had other expectations. This was not my best performance, I know that, but if God is satisfied, then I am as well,” Doku said about his showing at the World Cup.

During the tournament his son was born, a moment he described as the only bright spot. “That this was not my best World Cup. No, just kidding,” Doku laughed. “I was happy that I was there at his birth. I have no regrets about my choice. I do my best and just want to be the best possible father.”

The interview, conducted by , underscored how the winger’s personal ambitions clashed with the reality on the pitch. Despite being a key player for Manchester City, Doku said the experience left him reflecting on both his footballing and parental roles.
