Jansen warns of unrest at FC Twente after early European exit

At a quiet office in Enschede today, former professional Anco Jansen told ’s that FC Twente faces a difficult season, citing the club’s early European exit after two defeats to Ferencvárosi and the unrest already bubbling within the squad.

Jansen warned that the campaign could prove difficult. He added, “I think it could become a tough season for FC Twente. They haven’t started well.”

He noted that the club’s coach has just signed a one‑year extension, yet the early European disappointment has already created a stressful atmosphere. “They have a trainer they extended for a year, and already delivered a poor European performance. It feels unusually restless before the season even begins,” Jansen said.

According to the analyst, the premature European knockout has sparked doubts about the squad’s readiness. The analyst highlighted that the early exit undermines confidence ahead of the domestic campaign.

Twente’s European adventure ended after two consecutive defeats to Ferencvárosi, eliminating them from the Europa League. The loss confirmed that the club’s hopes in continental competition are over for now.

The Dutch side will now face DAC 1904 in the third qualifying round of the Conference League on Thursday. This match offers a chance to salvage some pride after the earlier setback.

Supporters had entered the season with higher expectations after last year’s strong showing. Jansen pointed out that the team largely retains the same eleven, supplemented by newcomers Weghorst and Adelgaard, describing the situation as a “big disappointment.”
