Ron Jans Criticises Ajax Move to Volendam for Play-Off Final

🇳🇱

Ron Jans, Ajax head coach, said he is not looking forward to playing the European play-off final in Volendam. The match, which decides a European competition place, will be held away from the Johan Cruijff Arena.

Ajax will relocate the fixture to the coastal town of Volendam because the Johan Cruijff Arena will host a series of concerts by pop star Harry Styles. The concerts occupy the stadium on the date of the final.

Jans described the situation as an “away match” that he does not want, emphasizing his preference for a home venue. He expressed frustration that the team must travel to the fishing village for the decisive game.

The decision means the Amsterdammers will face their opponents in Volendam rather than in Amsterdam. The venue change is driven solely by the scheduling conflict with the concerts.

The move highlights the impact of non‑football events on stadium availability in Dutch football. The club must now prepare for the match in a different setting.

Despite the venue shift, Ajax will focus on securing qualification for European competition. Jans indicated the team will approach the game with the same determination as if it were played at home.
