Italian outrage: Napoli’s win marred by disputed goal
Napoli secured a 0‑2 away victory over Genoa on Saturday evening in Italy, with Kevin De Bruyne delivering the opening strike ten minutes from the final whistle while Genoa’s goalkeeper Justin Bijlow had kept them in contention for much of the match.
For a long period the home side appeared set to claim a respectable point as Bijlow stood tall under the cross‑bar, but the breakthrough came late.
Controversy over the opening goal
Volgens Genoa‑trainer Daniele De Rossi a push was delivered to Johan Vásquez just before De Bruyne’s goal. “I think this time it is fairly clear,” he told La dello Sport.
De Rossi added, “Last year we discussed a penalty here, but that was something completely different. This year there is nobody in the world who does not think it was a foul.”
He also said he had spoken with referee Orsato before the match and stressed the need for good cooperation between the officials and the clubs.
The match ended 0‑2 after a second strike from Antonio Vergara sealed Napoli’s win.
Later, De Rossi expressed a very negative view of the incident, calling it “one of the worst things I have ever experienced in football.” He also commented on referee Di Bello, saying, “In my opinion Di Bello is not a bad referee, but his performance tonight was unlike any I have seen before.”
