Italian media drop verdict as ex-Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim steadies Milan

Italian newspapers have issued a clear verdict on former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, praising his early impact at AC Milan after a disastrous spell in the Premier League. The Portuguese coach, who lasted 63 games at United with a 38 per cent win rate, took over Milan on 16 June 2026 and is unbeaten after nine Serie A matches.
From United disappointment to Milan resurgence
Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United ended with the club finishing 15th – the lowest position in the Premier League era – and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. He was dismissed months into his second season, leaving a win percentage of 38 per cent, the poorest among permanent Old Trafford managers since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
Since joining AC Milan, Amorim’s side have amassed 15 points from four wins and three draws, placing them fourth after seven league games. In contrast, United have collected only seven points from seven matches, with a single win.
European outings and tactical tweaks
Milan have already featured twice in the Europa League, suffering a defeat to Benfica before thumping Red Bull Salzburg 4-0. The weekend victory over Atalanta – a 3-2 comeback after trailing by three goals – marked the end of the club’s six‑game winless run against that opponent.

After the Atalanta win, Amorim said: "Of course, the result is the most important thing, but we also have to analyse the performance. I said against Sassuolo we were improving as a team, the final minutes don't change that, they just give us a clear idea that we have a lot of work to do." He added that his total‑football approach may be draining players’ energy, warning that new strategies will be needed to sustain intensity for the full 90 minutes.
Media praise and historic notes
hailed the "spectacular" victory and suggested the club is on the right path, while Quotidiano Sportivo highlighted an "hour of dominant football" and praised the contributions of Ramos, Rabiot and Gila.
According to BeinSports, Amorim becomes only the third Milan manager to remain unbeaten in each of his first seven Serie A games, joining Hector Puricelli (1955) and Luis Carniglia (1963). The Italian press now view the former Manchester United boss – often dubbed the "Red Devils" dud – as a promising new boss for the Rossoneri.

Beyond his coaching résumé, Amorim began his media career as a freelance for This Is Futbol, later moving to FootballFanCast before becoming social‑media editor. He now edits for GiveMeSport, focusing on the Premier League, Champions League and English football. A lifelong Arsenal and Three Lions supporter, he also follows the All Blacks, reflecting his New Zealand upbringing.
