Indian artist Abhay Sehgal gives Bayern jersey Diwali flair

On the occasion of the Indian Festival of Lights Diwali, FC Bayern Munich collaborated with Indian artist Abhay Sehgal to create a special edition of the third kit that is not for sale. Sehgal used traditional Indian craft techniques such as embroidery and block printing to realize the design.

At the heart of the design are the dreams of young female and male footballers, intended to support every child regardless of background. The colour palette reflects the energy, warmth and festive atmosphere of Diwali, India's most important festival, which stands for light, hope and new beginnings.

Positive Reactions from the Players

The result is a unique one‑off piece where football, art and cultural identity come together. The kit tells the hopes of young people and how sport can connect people across borders. The embellished kit was presented by first‑team players such as Harry Kane, Serge Gnabry and Luis Díaz.

The players responded positively to the design and the story behind the motifs. As part of the presentation, a piece bearing the inscription “Gnabry vs. Kimmich: Red 🔴 or Green Light 🟢” was shown, which also received positive feedback. With the collaboration, FC Bayern signals its commitment to fans in India and emphasizes the importance of understanding local cultural nuances. The project demonstrates that the club wants to incorporate the perspectives of people on the ground to create new stories on the pitch and on the kit.
