Hubert takes on Real Sociedad without fear and with ambition
David Hubert, coach of Union Saint‑Gilloise, has stated that his team is not afraid of Thursday's match against Real Sociedad in the Europa League stage, despite arriving with a squad depleted by injuries and suspensions.
Attitude and objectives
The manager, who coached Anderlecht before taking over in Brussels, said: “I will only talk about the players available. There are no updates regarding the injured, so there is nothing to ask about that.” He added that they will approach the match “without fear and with ambition” and that the goal will be to secure the three points at home.
Hubert recalled that the same mindset was applied in the away game at Pilsen and that he will keep it in the upcoming matches, emphasizing the need to prepare the lads as best as possible and to set the best game plan against a Spanish side that boasts strong individual talents.
Logistical details and absences
The match will be played in the Belgian city of Leuven, as Union Saint‑Gilloise’s stadium does not meet UEFA’s requirements for European competitions. Despite facing Real Sociedad with about a dozen absences, Hubert keeps the team’s ambition intact.
Among the missing, forward Mateo Biondic, who was doubtful due to a leg issue, has been declared fit and will be able to play on Wednesday. In addition, it is mentioned that Matarazzo regains two attacking options for the trip to Belgium.
The Belgian coach also quoted former Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil, whom he greeted at the Anoeta stadium, and highlighted that Real have “several options for rotation, with different players who could be included in the lineup.”
Unai Valverde, the match commentator, warned: “If we think the game is manageable, we are wrong,” reinforcing the idea that Union Saint‑Gilloise must be ready for any lineup Real Sociedad may field.
