How Napoli forged Maradona into an eternal legend
Historic athletic trainer Fernando Signorini recalled his years beside Diego Maradona at Napoli during Il Centenario, emphasizing that without the Neapolitan experience the Argentine would never have become a timeless myth in the global football narrative, as highlighted in a recent Google Discover feature.
The piece was published on Google Discover under the heading "Fonti preferite" and tagged with Stampa, A&minus and A+. The article even includes a technical snippet: $(document).ready(function(){ $('.zoomout'... ), showing the underlying web‑page code.
Interviewed by La Repubblica, Signorini explained how the shadow of Vesuvius shaped Maradona’s career, turning him into a world icon. "I followed everything, and the wish for the blue society comes strongly from the heart," he said.

Signorini argued that Maradona’s path would have been different without Napoli. "Senza Napoli non sarebbe diventato un mito per sempre. Certo, se andava alla Juventus avrebbe vinto anche lì, ma non sarebbe diventato una leggenda del calcio mondiale," he asserted.
He recalled that he thinks of Napoli and Diego every day, linking football, passion, pain, joy, music and food. "For the football, for the passion, for the pain, for the joy, for the music, for the food, Diego was at home, there, in Napoli," he remembered.
Signorini also shared a vivid memory from Capri with Dino Celentano, describing how they dove into the Blue Grotto together. "We talked about it often, but only between us," he recalled.
Concluding, he summed up the unique bond: "Maradona è il Napoli. Many around the world have known Napoli because Diego played there. Everywhere they know there is a fantastic city with a fantastic team led by a number ten who could invent anything."
