Green Brigade leaves Celtic Park's North Curve empty for Celta
The Green Brigade, the loudest ultras group of Celtic, has announced that it will not attend the home match on 22 October against Celta at Celtic Park, leaving the North Curve empty. Approximately 3 000 Celtic supporters, about 5 % of the more than 60 000 seats, will occupy the away section.
The Celtic ultras have stated that they will also not attend any of Celtic's remaining matches in the Europa League or the Scottish Cup, whether at Celtic Park, away from it, or at Hampden. In addition, they have cancelled their season ticket for the Cup and will review their stance at the end of the season, or earlier if “adequate progress” is achieved.
“Achieving real change requires some degree of sacrifice,” argue the members of the Green Brigade. The protest originated after last weekend, when several fans threw tennis balls at Dermot Desmond, Celtic’s majority shareholder, during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in St Andrews.
The club responded with a hard‑line statement that singled out the Celtic Fans Collective, the platform to which the Green Brigade belongs, and warned that a line had been crossed. “Under the influence of Dermot Desmond, a dark cloud hangs over our club,” the group replied, accusing the board of “absolute contempt” towards the supporters.
Among their grievances they list cooperation with the police, reprisals against their representatives, restrictions on tifos, the suffocation of the standing‑support area and the constant threat of unilateral sanctions. They assert that under those conditions they cannot “function fully as an ultra group.”
For a decade the Green Brigade has occupied the railing‑enclosed area of the North Curve, although it was banned for much of the 2025‑26 season after an incident involving Falkirk. Now they fear another “imminent or fabricated incident” sanction.
Celta without the North Curve
Celta will play the Europa League fixture without the support of the North Curve, the stand that cheers the Scots, while about 3 000 Celtic supporters occupy the away sector. The absence reduces the atmospheric pressure of one of Europe’s most intimidating stadiums. The match kicks off at 21:00 Spanish time.
Green Brigade Review
For the Green Brigade, the Scottish league is not affected and the group will cancel its Cup season ticket, reviewing its stance at the end of the season or earlier if “adequate progress” is achieved. They will maintain their protest until they consider that the board has responded to their demands.
