Gollini steps in as Svilar faces nine-game spell before November break
Pierluigi Gollini is set to make his first Serie A appearance since 2024 as Roma brace for the absence of Mile Svilar, who will miss the next nine Serie A and Champions League games packed into just 28 days before the November break.
Injury updates and squad impact
The number 99, now a key figure for the Giallorossi, fractured the fifth toe on his right foot during training on 2 October. Il Messaggero doctors will decide in the coming days whether a screw is needed to stabilise the fracture, though any procedure is unlikely to extend the planned recovery period.
Svilar’s last Serie A start for Roma came on 10 February 2024 against Inter. With his injury, the club will be without him for both domestic and European fixtures until after the November pause.
Roma brace for Real Madrid clash missing Svilar for a month
Gollini, who made just one appearance in a year and a half for Roma – a Europa League tie with Panathinaikos – will replace Svilar in goal. His previous Serie A outing was on 5 October 2024 for Atalanta against Genoa, a match that highlighted his former four‑year partnership in Bergamo.
During that period Gollini earned a national team call‑up, but a later dispute with the coach ended any prospect of further collaboration, making his return this season particularly noteworthy.
